Harm van den Dorpel is a Dutch “Post-Internet” artist who uses his background in computer science and artificial intelligence to manipulate colors, shapes, and lines into digital art. His works are displayed in different forms, from live websites to photo collages, often exploring and questioning the ever-changing relationship between people and digital technology. Through what he describes as “unstable media,” Dorpel uses his work to look at how online tools influence the way we create, see, and interact with the world around us. His art also raises questions about authorship, originality, and where the line between the virtual and physical really lies. Blending computational logic with artistic intuition, he creates pieces that both mirror and challenge the digital environments we live in. In addition, by using self-made algorithms and layers of feedback, Dorpel turns raw data into visual stories, exploring the different dynamics that things on the internet may have.
“I’m trying to make systems that reverse engineer my implicit or unconscious ideas of what I want to achieve.” -Dorpel, Taken from Net Art Anthology
